Commonwealth Projects and the Getty Conservation Institute are proud to present their new film, From Start to Finish: The Story of De Wain Valentine’s Gray Column. This documentary tells the story, from conception to display at the Getty Center, of De Wain Valentine’s behemoth resin sculpture, Gray Column. The history of art in Southern California is an inspiration to CWP and the opportunity to chronicle this place and time has been a privilege. The 30-minute film was directed and produced by Commonwealth Projects over the course of 2010 and 2011. It includes interviews with artists, conservators, scientists, collectors, and historians. The documentary was created for the Getty Conservation Institute as part of the Pacific Standard Time Initiative. A DVD copy of the film is housed in an exhibition catalogue also designed by Commonwealth Projects.
